5 Top Tips to lead you to success in your challenge

As a professional development coach I am passionate about helping those that want to make a change and take on a challenge.

You are all sharing your individual challenges that you are undertaking over the coming weeks, this motivated me to pop a few tips together to support you in your quest. These are tips that have worked time and time again with my clients, so give them a go yourself.

Make sure your goal is something YOU want to achieve, it’s challenging and is realistic.
Write your goal down – in line with the 6 week challenge, what is the final date. Attach this date to your goal. Otherwise 6 weeks will be an eternal 6 weeks! Check the words of your goal and make sure it is stated in the positive. Avoid words like lose, reduce, try, give a go etc. I will write my book by 13^th December. Great, now that you have a positive goal that you want to achieve, place this in a visible location and ask yourself a couple of key questions; How much do YOU want to achieve this goal (perhaps on a scale of 1-10, 1 being not very much and 10 yes yes yes) What are your reasons for wanting to achieve this goal? What will it give you? What will your life be like once you have achieved your goal? What happens if things stay the same? How much control do you have over the success of your challenge?
Break the goal down – since you have 6 weeks to achieve your goal – what are the weekly manageable steps that you need to take to achieve overall success.
Remind yourself daily of your goal and the reasons why you have taken on this challenge.
Banish those gremlins! What is likely to get in your way of your success? What has stopped you taking action before? What action are you going to take when the going gets tough? Now lets consider how you can deal with this. Who can help you? What skills/resources do you have? What have you done in the past when faced with similar obstacles? Start considering your tactics now.

So now you know what you really really want, you have a positive timed goal that is broken down week by week and you have a plan of action for dealing with any additional challenges that you may face along the way so my final question is – how are you going to celebrate your success?

Live radio, anything can happen…

So today I was presenting The Community Show 12-2 and due to the bad weather we were getting reports though from facebook and text about flooding in the local area, roads being closed and trees falling down.

Because of this I thought it would be good to speak to a local Councillor from Radstock (10 mins down the road from station) because it was one of the worst hit towns in the local area with main roads turning into rivers.

I had 30 seconds to get the number from my mobile, phone it, connect though the desk and check the call. I may of phoned the wrong Simon… This resulted in me getting live weather reports from Simon Payne in Bristol, whilst Luke running down stairs and phoning the other Simon on a second line in our production studio (this was basically agreed though mime, as the studio next door to my one was also in use). Now knowing when someone is on the line in a totally different part of the building, whilst your still trying to present a live show can be, um, fun!

However, that being said, I loved it! The pressure of trying to get calls, the fun of not knowing what’s going to happen next is great!! I want to do it like this all the time. So anyone who wants to hire me as a call in host, please do!!!!

So far I have managed two Doctor Who references, created a character who is basically Robert Sheehan, killed my main character, been so blasphemous that I think I might actually go to hell and put in two jokes that are so bad they are good.

I just had a demon hunter dive through a window, stab a vampire with a sharp wooden implement and yell: “who ordered the stake?”

Yeah.
Its that kind of a book.
